I’ve never worked longer on a project than this one.
I had the idea for this piece in 2009 while working in Florence, Ala. The editors there weren’t crazy about it, so it never came to fruition.
When I began working at MOAA, I pitched the idea my first week.
After three years of gathering photos and interviews on trips across the country, I finally had enough footage to produce this project in the summer of 2014.
